Have you ever noticed how exhausted you feel after scrolling through politics for an hour?
Not because you learned something new.
But because something attached itself to your spirit.
That’s why I call it Poli-Ticks.
Ticks don’t scream for attention.
They quietly attach themselves, feed on your energy, and often leave you feeling worse than when you found them.
Some political conversations can do the same thing.
I’m not saying don’t care about your community or your country. We should care. We should stay informed. But somewhere along the way, many of us stopped informing ourselves and started feeding anxiety instead.
We wake up scratching our minds with headlines.
We argue with strangers we’ll never meet.
We lose sleep over problems we can’t solve before breakfast.
Meanwhile, our own lives are quietly asking for attention.
Our families.
Our health.
Our dreams.
Our peace.
That’s where self-care becomes an act of wisdom, not avoidance.
The world will always have another headline.
Your nervous system only has one you.
Sometimes the bravest thing you can do isn’t win another argument.
It’s closing the app.
Going for a walk.
Calling someone you love.
Drinking some water.
Laughing until your stomach hurts.
Choosing silence over another debate.
Because protecting your peace isn’t weakness.
It’s maintenance.
So the next time Poli-Ticks starts making you itchy, ask yourself one question:
“Is this information helping me grow… or is it simply feeding on my attention?”
Choose wisely.
Your compassion is a gift.
Don’t let everything have access to it.
“Not every battle deserves your energy. Some victories begin the moment you stop scratching what keeps draining your peace.”
