Goddamn, it takes a lot of work to be human.

Did any of us really sign up for all this? The responsibilities, the daily grind, the expectations? And on top of that, we’ve got to work a nine-to-five just to keep it all running. It’s a full-time job just existing in this body, and yet, here we are, doing our best.
I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately. Sitting here with my peppermint tea—because, listen, if you’re going to put something in your body, make it good. The best you can afford. Don’t let your budget dictate your health.
Anyway, back to the point. I’ve been on this ongoing cleanse, aligning my body with the rhythms of astrology, constantly clearing out the old to make way for the new. And it hit me: Before we were in these bodies, before we were bound by flesh and bone, we were spirit—limitless, flowing, free. Then, boom! We got plopped into these human vessels, and suddenly, we had rules. We had gravity. We had limitations.
And the more time we spend in these bodies, the more we realize just how much work it takes to be human. When we were kids, though? We had it all figured out. We played, we ran, we rolled in the grass, we screamed with joy, and we cried when we couldn’t go outside. We didn’t overcomplicate things.
The other day, I saw a little girl crying outside my building. I asked her what was wrong, and she said, “It’s raining, and I can’t go outside!” Damn, do you remember that? When staying inside felt like a punishment? Somewhere along the way, we lost that connection to movement, to joy, to simply being.
As adults, we sit too much. We become still. We forget what it feels like to throw our arms over our heads, to roll in the grass, to climb something just for the hell of it. And let’s be honest—our spirits must think we’re batshit crazy for this. We go from wild, free beings to people who willingly spend the best years of our lives stuck in offices, working toward someone else’s dream, neglecting our own bodies, our own joy..
What happened?
Somewhere along the way, we started prioritizing productivity over play. We stopped listening to our bodies. But here’s the thing: Being human is work. And the work isn’t just about grinding through life—it’s about taking care of the vessel we’re in. It’s about moving, stretching, playing, connecting with nature, with the sun, with the air, with the earth.
Children know the assignment. They get it. They don’t let restrictions hold them back. And no matter what their circumstances are, once they’re outside, they’re free. They embrace life. They live.
So why did we stop?
Maybe it’s time we take a lesson from our younger selves. Maybe it’s time to move, to play, to make space for joy. Because being human is work—but damn, it should also be a whole lot of fun.
